TraceQuest is a learn-to-draw-and-write app for kids, built to work on your device. Your child's drawings, uploaded pictures, writing, and progress stay on the device and are not uploaded to us. We show no ads, use no third-party trackers, require no account or sign-in, and never sell anyone's data. This page lists every time anything leaves the device, what it is, and when we delete it.
No adsNo trackersNo accounts Works offlineNothing soldThese are saved only in your device's own storage and are never sent to us:
An uploaded picture is turned into a tracing outline entirely on the device. It is not sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app, or clearing its data, removes all of this.
These are the only times TraceQuest sends anything over the internet.
The Feedback form is for grown-ups. If you send it, we receive the category and star rating you pick, the message you type, an optional email address so we can reply, and basic details to help fix problems: the app version, the kind of device (for example "Android" or "iPad"), and the screen size. If usage sharing is turned on (see 2), the device's usage counts are included too. Please do not put a child's full name or other sensitive details in a message.
Usage sharing is off until a grown-up turns on "Share anonymous usage counts" in the Players screen, which is behind a grown-ups-only question. When it is on, the app sends counts such as lessons finished, drawings finished, and stars earned, with the child's grade and a random code made on the device. The code is never a name. We use these counts to see whether TraceQuest helps children learn and to improve it. Turning the switch off stops sending at once.
When a child is learning a language and types their own word or sentence in My Words, words the built-in dictionary already knows are translated on the device. Anything else is sent to our translation service, which runs on Cloudflare, and the translation comes straight back. We do not store what was typed. In school (district) mode, typed words are never sent at all.
Purchases happen only on the TraceQuest website, never inside the app-store versions. Stripe runs the checkout page and handles the card; we never see card numbers. We receive the buyer's email address, the plan chosen, and Stripe's customer and subscription references, and we create an unlock code. When the code is entered on a device, the app checks it with our server and we count how many devices have used it (up to 10 per household).
If a teacher or school leader asks about a pilot on our schools page, we receive the name, role, school or district, email, and message they enter. This form is for adults.
Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) sees your device's internet address when it delivers the app and answers a request. We use that address only for a moment, to limit abuse, and we do not store it.
We use a small number of service providers, only to run the features above. They may not use the information for their own purposes.
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information for advertising, and we do not share it with anyone else.
We keep information only as long as it is needed for the reason we collected it, then delete it. The deletions below happen automatically. Nothing is kept forever.
| What | When it is deleted | Why we collect it | Why we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Words typed to translate | Never stored | To translate them | We do not keep them |
| Usage counts (only if turned on) | 12 months after they are sent | To see whether TraceQuest helps and to improve it | To compare progress across a school year |
| Feedback, including any email address | 12 months after it is sent, or sooner if you ask | To reply and fix problems | To follow up after a fix |
| Checkout lookup (links a payment to its unlock code) | 30 days after the purchase | To show your code on the thank-you page | In case the thank-you page is reopened |
| Purchase record (email, plan, Stripe references, device count) | 90 days after a subscription ends; lifetime plans are kept while they are valid | To keep a paying family unlocked | While the plan is active |
| Everything on the device | When you delete the app or clear its data | For the app to work | Until you remove it |
Stripe keeps its own payment records under its own rules.
A child can use all of TraceQuest without an account and without giving any personal information. A child's name stays on the device. The only things that can leave the device from a child's play are words typed to translate, which are never stored, and usage counts, which a grown-up must turn on first.
A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to review, or to delete, anything we hold about their child, and can stop further collection by turning off usage sharing. Email us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
Everything that leaves the device is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the small amount of information we hold. If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will ask a parent before using a child's information in a new way.
